The Serpent’s Love

They warned me about you,

They told me to stay away from you.

They were concerned for my good,

I told them where I stood:

That I loved you with all my heart,

Even though you inflict pain that tears me apart.

That I am a prisoner of your love,

And your slave at the stove.

I told them that I cannot go away,

And that you have me in your sway.

Voices cried out against your name,

Filling my ears with condemnations and shame.

I told them that you do me no good,

But still provide me some crumbs of love as food.

Even though you bind me with no chain,

And provide no happiness for me to gain;

I told them that I cannot go away,

And that you have me in your sway.

They want to set me free from your grasp.

But provide no love for which I gasp.

Even though you use me as a tool,

And beat me with a stool.

Even though my time with you is fears and tears,

And my body is bruises and blood smears,

I told them that I cannot go away,

And that you have bound my heart in your sway.

  1. I loved these lines….
    “Voices cried out against your name,

    Filling my ears with condemnations and shame.

    I told them that you do me no good,

    But still provide me some crumbs of love as food.

    Even though you bind me with no chain,

    And provide no happiness for me to gain;

    I told them that I cannot go away,

    And that you have me in your sway”

    Chiseled and beautiful words…woven so gracefully….💕
